Memorial Day is upon us and the weather report is calling for abundant amounts of sunshine. Many of you will be enjoying your free time around water. Some may take in an athletic event. While others will be outside doing yard work, excersing or just enjoying the weather. To maximize your outdoor experiences you should make sure to wear a good pair of sunglasses. What makes some sunglasses better then others? It is not necessarily the price tag. The two things that you want to look for on the next pair of sunglasses that you purchase it that they have UV protection and Polarized lenses. The uv protection is important because it can stop harmful uv rays that can cause damage to the eye. Polarized lenses will help eliminate that annoying glare that comes off of horizontal surfaces (i.e. pool. road surface, cars). Both will help to protect your eyes and enjoy your activity more.

New Years Resolution
Riverside Eye Center providing eye care and eye wear for Columbus, OH, Upper Arlington, OH, Hilliard, OH, and Dublin, OH.
As the new year starts many of you will be making resolutions. Most people’s resolutions revolve around making healthier choices in their life. These can be from exercising more or eating better. I would agree that these are great goals to start and hopefully maintain for a lifetime of good health. My question and challenge to you would be ……..what are you doing for your ocular health?
Now some of you may be thinking what does that even mean……ocular health? So many of us think of ocular health as just wearing glasses or contacts, and making sure we maintain/update our prescriptions for those devices. There is much more to ocular health though. How do you know you don’t have dry eye or allergies? How about more serious conditions like macular degeneration or glaucoma? And for those diabetics out there are you getting your eyes checked regularly.
So while you are going about making your new year’s resolutions don’t forget to schedule an appointment with your eye doctor. After all the best type of care is preventative care.
